UH OH_ AND YOU CLICKED ANYWAYS!

You clicked as this is human nature, we will simply do things we are not supposed to do, You clicked because you thought it was harmless.

This is why we look down while driving to send this one text...

Or we are a Tesla owner and we jump to the back seat while Autopilot is engaged.

Either the Tesla owners love the adrenaline rush or they are confusing Autopilot, which is nothing but a well-performing Advance DRIVER Assistance System (ADAS) with a fully autonomous vehicle.

The problem might lie in the fact that it is indeed well-performing ADAS, Ironies of automation are well-researched since the 80s'. The better the system performs, the more difficult it is to stay focused monitoring the system performance.

To address the dangers of automation Tesla did release updates requiring users to prove their engagement and keep hands on the steering wheel - well now there is a workaround for that, too: There are also companies that build the whole business model and charge money for helping Tesla user act irresponsibly. Luckily, one journalist does not allow us to be ripped off by a $200 gadget and suggests a 50 cents solution.

We do not mean to condemn Tesla, we acknowledge that despite being one of the youngest car companies they have already managed to change the direction the whole automotive industry is going. What we only want to point out here is the need to put the human nature in the center of your product design.

Here are some great reads on HMI and it' role in the car design.
